Strange Little Fibromyalgia Flare-Ups No One Knows or Talks About

Yes, there are strange little fibromyalgia flare-ups that no one talks about and why they do not talk about them could be for any number of reasons. When most talk about “fibromyalgia flare-ups” they talk about how much more they feel the aches and pains when there is going to be a weather change or they are more stressed out but there are others that happen for no apparent reason.

I am one of those that run the gauntlet of fibromyalgia flare-ups from  normal to strange. When I first started to have these “strange” flare-ups I did not associate them with fibromyalgia but when talking to members of a fibromyalgia group I belong to I found out I am not alone and that they are fibromyalgia flare-ups that are on the strange side.

When you have these strange flare-ups they can happen out-of-the-blue and can last for a day or several days. You may have a set of strange fibromyalgia flare-ups that go in rotation and happen every few weeks or months. Everyone is different. On such strange fibromyalgia flare-up is the enhanced sense of smell that can result in everything smelling extremely strong or stink extremely bad. The extreme stinky part is the worse as things that use to smell good to you can make you feel nauseated, feeling like you have to throw up, can make you run for the room air freshener, lighting candles, or just leaving the area.

Another strange fibromyalgia flare-up is everything tastes spicy and makes your tongue and mouth feel as if they are on fire, including eating ice cream, cookies, and other sweets. One or two bites can set off this flare-up and you find that you do not want to eat. There are even times where drinking tea, soda, kool-aide, etc. can have the same effect. You can also experience “numb tongue” which is where you have the feeling that you have burned your tongue on a hot food. You may also experience where nothing you eat or drink has any taste at all or there may be just one food that has any taste.

Another strange fibromyalgia flare-up is the itches, which can happen on any part or parts of your body. It can be your feet, your head, your hands or your back and when this strange flare-up happens all you feel like you want to do is scratch continually. To help with this annoyance, especially if it is happening to more than one place on your body at the same time, you can soak in a cool/warm bath with oatmeal, apply anti-itch cream, or take an antihistamine medication. While any of these things can help, they will come back until the flare-up is over.
